Family Update

Yeah, Keri is one hot mama. Today we find ourselves exactly 3 weeks from the due date for Baby Boy Two, and Keri is the person that others look at and say, "You look like you're about to pop!" And she feels like she's about to pop. Having triple digit temperatures with high humidity does not help a nine-month pregnant mama feel better either (Friday's 105 degrees was the highest official temperature ever recorded in Greenville, beating the 104 from the previous couple days in a row).

Asa made a remarkably seamless transition to his big-boy bed a week ago. After a significant expenditure of mental energy, we decided to set up a little toddler bed for him and he really enjoys it, much to our delight (and relief). Perhaps the bigger transition awaits — when his little brother arrives and he learns he's not the center of the universe. That will be so good for him. I really do think he'll take to his brother very well because he loves being around people in general and playing with other kids, and because he typically has a fairly happy and gentle disposition.

We were able to enjoy a long weekend at the beach with Keri's family, kind of a chance for us to catch our breath before the intense couple months ahead. As it turns out, Keri awoke early Saturday morning with contractions exactly 10 minutes apart, and there was real concern that the little dude would be born in Charleston rather than here at home. A day of self-imposed bed rest was what Keri needed. Asa remained petrified of the ocean the entire time, but had a good time otherwise. Time on the road was basically an extended pursuit of what is perhaps Asa's greatest fascination: bulldozers and big trucks.

So stay tuned for updates as we hit "Any day now" mode. If you'd care to guess the birth date and weight in the comments, feel free. I'm saying August 29th, 8 lbs 2oz.

Asa was OK at the beach as long as someone held him.

I guess this picture near the battery in Charleston is one of the first pictures of the four of us.
Asa is indeed a cool dude and appears to own the pool deck.

I cannot believe how big Asa is getting, and that you are about to be the parents of two boys! You all look great.
