News & Notes

Well it has certainly been a while since I last posted anything of note in this space. The blog has obviously become little more than a place for folks who are interested in us to stay in touch a little bit. Maybe one day I'll get back to more substantive blogging, but I don't have the time to do it these days. It's just not a priority right now.

Anyway.... there's been a lot going on:

* It's a BOY!

Yes, Keri is going to be outnumbered. Earlier in the month we learned that baby #2 is, to the surprise of many, another baby boy. We are really excited about seeing Asa and his little brother playing together, wrestling, going to ball games, and all kinds of stuff like that. I'd post the ultrasound, but the little man was not super-cooperative when it came to posing for the technician. In fact, we were legitimately concerned that we weren't going to know the gender with certainty but, thankfully, he decided he didn't want anyone to think he was a girl, so he made himself, umm, well known. We're very grateful for #2, and the early difficulties have largely subsided for Keri.

* Asa has become a human cannonball in the last week or two. He moves at top speed without much regard for life and limb. On consecutive days earlier in the week he hurtled into the dining room table and emerged with a lovely and large black and blue lump in the middle of his forehead. He rarely slows down, though sometimes he'll recline on the chair or couch with a book or to watch 30 seconds of the Braves game. But he evidently has no time for longer breaks - he's a guy on the go.

* I had the opportunity to preach for the first time at our church (Sovereign Grace Church, formerly Grace Covenant Church) here in Greenville a couple of weeks ago. The invitation caught me off guard, but fortunately I had a couple of weeks to prepare and the experience was great. I preached on Mark 12:38-44, which was the next sequence in our journey through the book of Mark. We are really grateful and truly blessed to be a part of that church.

* Some of you will be interested to know that, as it turns out, I'm the biggest loser. Sort of. The company I work for set up a ten week weight loss competition modeled after the television show, "The Biggest Loser." While there were plenty of other motivators already at work (spiritual and otherwise), the modest cash incentive provided by the company, along with the competitive element that came with it, proved to be very helpful. Well, it turns out I lost 20 pounds and became the biggest loser. I have loftier goals, but ultimately am trying to make adjustments to lifestyle and perspective that will give longer term results. We'll see.

That's all I got for now, just a few highlights. I'll try to add some pictures to this post later.

It's a Boy

Keri is going to be outnumbered. We recently found out that baby #2 is a boy!

We are excited about having a pair of boys that can wrestle and play rough with each other. It will be lots of fun. The picture above is of the tiny man's face - you can see the mouth open (we actually saw him yawn a couple of times - and the nose just above (more to the left than above actually). He was not super-cooperative with the ultrasound tech. He kept his arms close to his face, preventing us from getting a good look, and for a while we were very concerned about his modestly as it seemed we might not learn his gender after all. But soon enough he cooperated in that department and even put on a show - he didn't want anyone to think there was any chance that he was a girl.
